It’s China Wok Time!

IMG_3309_smallI know this looks like an advertisement for an Asian escort, but it’s not.  It’s my last night in Athens and I just got back to my hotel after a long day of Athenian hill walking and swimming and archaeology and museuming and I was looking for some Asian food.  I had the best Greek taverna dinner on Paros a few nights ago and I didn’t want to ruin it with some substandard souvlaki and okay octopus.  And had a great nouveau taverna dinner with Robert last night here in Athens at Rififi in Exarchia (wish I had my camera to take a pic of the sesame crusted saganaki drizzled with greek honey, good lord that was good), so again couldn’t top that so just wanted something Asian and spicy with some ice cold Greek beer. Didn’t see anything in Plaka, or Syntagma or Omonoia and when I got back here, the gorgeous, blue-eyed, deep-voiced Vasilis suggested ordering in.  He’s the concierge, and I just asked if there was a Thai restaurant or anything Asian close by, and bam, he handed me a Chinese takeout menu and in that crazy deep voice of his said “Tell me what you want in English and I will order it for you in Greek”.  I’ll tell you, that’s the best proposition I’ve had this trip! He definitely didn’t have to twist my arm. And there’s a cute little hotel bar. Dim lights, cushiony chairs. Sure, cans of Mythos cost a whopping 3.50 here, but I’m exhausted and honestly, I’m just so psyched that I can get some Chinese take out.

I just saw a Dominos delivery guy come in…oh Vasilis, and I thought I was special.

Top left corner, pork with garlic sauce and chili. Yum.

Just like home, except in Greek.

Maybe I’ll revisit Spain when I’m in Oslo tomorrow.
