Physically, that is…my mind is still in Central America along with the flip flops I left behind. And now I am trying to organize all my photos and videos and play with this blog on my MacBook instead of frustrating myself with all the Russian PCs circa 1958 that littered the internet cafes a traves de Guatemala. One good thing is that it doesn’t take me three days to upload media. And I have access to all my very cool software. Believe it or not, I’ve also had some requests to keep posting and since I do still have some interesting and exciting multimedia content, I’ll try to keep posting until my next trip…which is just a month or so away…or until someone pleads with me to stop.
At the very least, I would like to post more pics and some videos. I just worked on these three yesterday. They are little movies I took on my little Motorola Blur on the first day of the safe stove project and I played around with them in iMovie and even added a little Spanish commentary to the last one (with English subtitles, of course).
You can find a lot of information on the web about organizations that coordinate social projects like this one all over the world, even here! My second school in Quetzaltenango has several volunteer opportunities for students (and non-students) which you can read about on the Pop Wuj site. You can read more about volunteering in Guatemala at Entremundos or Help International. I also found a Canadian organization called Guatemala Stove Project that’s just a nice site that explains the immediate benefits of this initiative and also has a volunteer program.
Next are some short videos and slideshows of Día de Los Muertos that I will work on editing this week if I have time. Enjoy!
Tricia, you’re a caring person who gives something you don’t find too much these days: time and patience. The kids are precious. I’m honored to know you.
Thank you so much for watching, posting and the compliment, Warren. It’s very easy to adore Guatemalan children…not only are they beautiful, they possess some innate inner joy that is truly infectious.
