G.D.E.V. (gracias a dios está viernes)

What a week.  I’m at work now, finished designing a layout page to go over with Stef here and Tony in Canada.  I’ll post it next week once we tweak it.  And it’s so official, I’m moving in on Sunday, Stef gave me the key today. School was pretty productive también. I am still having un poco de problemas con el pretérito y el imperfecto, but I was a little better today and my homework was mostly okay.  Miriam seems to think I’m doing great so I’m just going to take her word for it.

El Puente de los Chocoyos, I pass this every day on my way to school, home and work. Not really sure why it was built, but it sure is purdy.

Sadly, today was my last day with Miriam, I’ll have a new teacher next week.  I requested someone who has some knowledge about computer programs so I can run unfamiliar commands and stuff by him/her.  I hope I get someone as fun and competent as Miriam.  We had fantastic conversations today.  I was able to clearly describe the plot to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind AND communicate what dejá vu means.  For some reason they use this term to describe premonitions.  She has already invited me to her house to have dinner with her and her daughter next week and wants me to teach her some English and how to make Greek roast chicken.

Had a delicious lunch today of spaghetti with sausages and watched a little bit of Miss Guatemala with Ilse.  Tomorrow her cousin will be marching in a band while playing a xylophone.  There’s a holiday next Wednesday, but the festivities start this weekend and continue until next Sunday.  It’s a national holiday to commemorate Guatemala’s independence from Spain in 1821 but the biggest fiesta is in Quetzaltenango.  We have had pretty great weather the past two days and I hope it continues.

I’m actually pretty exhausted right now, so I’ll probably skip the “graduation” party at Celas Maya tonight. There may be a more suitable one for me next Friday.  Not really in the mood to play beer pong with a bunch of 20 year olds.  Ronaldo is going to kill me, I promised I would go tonight. Oh well.

If the weather is really nice, I might not get a chance to write this weekend, but I’ll be back on Monday.  Tienes un fin de semana fabuloso, everyone!

  1. There is probably some history of that bridge. Maybe bulls used to run and they built it so people could get across the street. Or Not.
    Enjoy your week=end.
    LOVE YA

    1. My friend Bill looked used an online translator to translate something he found in Spanish and when I read it I know less about it than when I started. I like your version!

      Enjoy your weekend too! xxoo

    1. You know honey, I think you´re right…the sidewalks here are pretty high in places too. And when we got all that rain last week, the streets were flooded, like little brooks. ¡Tu eres muy intelligente, mi amor! xoxo

  2. The bridge does look like it would be over water. Do the locals have any clue? Hope the weekend was great! xoxo
