Earlier today, I had to cut my post short due to too much tea at breakfast and a lack of bathroom facilities at my favorite internet cafe in Xela (thank goodness I haven’t experienced Xela belly yet, lord knows I’m trying—ate at a sketchy comedor yesterday and just had some yummy Indian food). So since I didn’t write anything yesterday and who knows what’s going to happen tomorrow after I meet my host family, I figured I may as well write again.
So after my last post, I started googling my symptoms in an attempt to self-diagnose my cold/mold allergy/pneumonia/HAPE/dengue fever/collapsed lung. And after that turned up way too many ailments for me to even consider dealing with, I proceeded to self-medicate my undiagnosed illness with stuff from the supermercado. ¡Me encanta Panadol alergia y sinusitis, Vick vaporub y Un Respiro De Aire Fresco HALLS!
Also, my trip to Fuentes Georginas didn’t happen. I was all set to go, dolor de la cabeza, estornudos y la tos be damned! It was the derrumbamiento that kept me in Xela this afternoon. Mommy, you should probably stop reading now, but if you decide to continue, please don’t worry too much. I’m in a big enough city that just gets a little soaked during rainy season. But this is landslide country up here and the last two days of unrelenting rain (and recent Pacaya eruption) has left quite a bit of landslide wake in neighboring towns. So no sauna today. Probably not likely this month either.
The sun did poke its head out this afternoon and I ran around to some bookstores and sat in the park to work on exercises in my new sentence building workbook and also started sketching out a calendar layout. I really should probably just lie in bed and watch Spanish CNN, which is what I would probably do if I felt a little sick at home. Not sure why I can’t sit still. I probably caught this cold walking around lost in the rain!
Tomorrow is market day in the Parque Centroamérica, first Sunday of every month. Can’t wait!
I’m sry to hear that your sick but panadol works great …try peppermint. Tea…clears up your breathing and relaxes you. I’m loving this blog….reminds me of dear god its me margret somehow .hope you feel better 🙂

If you can find coca cola there. It’s good for stomach ailments (fushee)?
I hope your host family doesn’t live in landslide area.
Feel better!

There´s plenty of coca cola here…I feel much better today, just a little cold or allergies to musty closets. My host family lives just down up the road from school so I think it´s pretty safe there!

Hello! Is it alright if I go a bit off topic? I’m trying to view your site on my Macbook but it doesn’t display properly, any suggestions? Thank you for the help I hope! Lynn
Hi Lynn, not sure why it´s not displaying properly. I created the blog with WordPress on a MacBook (viewed in both Safari & Firefox) and it looked fine. I don´t have my computer with me and I´m posting on PCs in internet cafes (viewing in IE, Google Chrome and Firefox and all seems okay). Not sure what the problem is. Sorry, wish I could help more. Hope you can still enjoy reading it.
Hi Tricia…my neighbor told me there were mudslides there. I just heard today. Are you OK? Are you still there?
MELISSA
Hola elissamae,
There was a horrible storm when I first got here and deadly mudslides very close to where I am, the weather continues to be erratic, it rained all weekend, but not like the first weekend I was here. How you be?? xoxo
(yes, I´m still here…=
